If you live on the golf-course side of Towne Lake, the second half of 2026 is stacking up in a way that rewards staying close to home. Downtown Woodstock, the SORBA-maintained trail systems off Sixes and Rope Mill, and the venue row on Main Street are all inside a short drive of The Fairways, and they are running back-to-back events from August through Thanksgiving weekend.
The thesis, plain
Most guides to the Woodstock area treat downtown, the trails, and the live-music venues as three separate destinations. From The Fairways, they aren't. They're a single calendar. What follows is that calendar, laid out so you can plan a Saturday, a weeknight, or a full October weekend without opening five browser tabs.
Downtown, dated
Visit Woodstock GA's 2026 program was announced back in January, and the fall dates are locked in. Keep this near the fridge.

The Family Fun Night Series runs the third Thursday May through August, the Summer Scratch Off shopping promotion runs August 1–31, Taste of Woodstock returns September 10 on the Woodstock Arts Event Green and Market Street, the Scarecrow Invasion runs October 1–31 with scarecrow design registration opening September 1, Ghouls Night Out returns Friday October 30 for downtown trick-or-treating, and the Walking Tour Series is scheduled for the last Thursday of the month April through October. Taste of Woodstock is the one date on that list that fills the Event Green early, so if you like to walk in rather than shuttle, plan to arrive on foot from the Noonday Creek Trail side.
The trail question most Fairways residents get wrong
Fairways households tend to default to the Eagle Watch cart paths for a quick loop, then drive out to Kennesaw Mountain for anything longer. That's a habit worth breaking. The two trail systems maintained by SORBA Woodstock are closer than most people think, and they cover a wider skill range than the cart paths do.
At Blankets Creek off Sixes Road, the system runs six trails: Mosquito Flats (Beginner), Mosquito Bite (Beginner plus), Dwelling Loop (Intermediate), South Loop (Advanced), Van Michael (Advanced), and Quehl Holler (Expert Downhill). Just east at Olde Rope Mill Park, the Taylor Randahl Memorial trails add three more: Explorer (Intermediate), Avalanche (Intermediate), and The Mill Trails (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced).
Two operational details worth knowing before you head out:
- Directional by day. Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri the trails run clockwise or to the left, and Tue/Thu/Sat they run counter-clockwise or to the right. Show up on the wrong day going the wrong way and you'll spend the ride apologizing.
- Walkers yield. Walkers and trail runners must yield to bicycles and should move in the opposite direction of bicycle traffic on all trails, except Mosquito Flats.
- Explorer status. Explorer Trail at Olde Rope Mill Park has been undergoing maintenance and closed as of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, until the work is complete. Worth checking the SORBA status page before you drive over.
If you want a shorter loop with a payoff, the Olde Rope Mill Little River Trail is an easy 2.1-mile route rated 4.3, and it stays shaded well into the late afternoon.
Two race weekends to put on the calendar
Mountain Goat Adventures runs a pair of late-season events on the same ground, both of which put money back into the trails you'd be riding anyway. The Rope Mill Dirty Duathlon lands November 7, 2026, with entry at $55 through October 17 and $60 after, and a portion of proceeds donated to SORBA Woodstock for continued maintenance and upkeep of the Blankets Creek and Rope Mill Trails. Two weeks later, the Blankets Creek 3 and 6 Hour Mountain Bike Race is presented by Free Flite Bicycles, whose owner Dan Thornton and crew were major contributors to the Trail Fund that helped fund construction of the Van Michael Trail, Loop 3 of the Explorer Trail, and the Mill Trails at Rope Mill Park.
One 2026 rule change matters if you've been eyeing the endurance format on a pedal-assist. E-bikes are not allowed in the 2026 event, which is a change from previous years. The duathlon has the same restriction on the ride leg.
If you'd rather cheer than race, both events use Blankets Creek's main lot as a pit row, which turns a Saturday morning walk into something closer to a tailgate.
Weeknights, five minutes away
Two venues do most of the heavy lifting for Fairways residents who want to be home by eleven.
MadLife Stage & Studios is running a dense August tribute lineup. Names on the schedule that Fairways households tend to recognize: Aerosmith tribute Pandora's Box on August 7, On the Border, the ultimate Eagles tribute, on August 21, and Legends of New Country, a tribute to Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson, on August 29. Supernova, an Oasis tribute, plays August 8, and the Undiscovered Artist Show is at MadLife on August 4.
Reformation Brewery on the south side of downtown is running its own August cadence. The Reformation Beer Mile is August 6 at 6:30 pm, the Reformation Watermelon Crawl 2026 is August 8 at noon, and Game Night is August 17 at 6:30 pm. The Watermelon Crawl in particular tends to spill into the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village side of downtown, so parking near Chattahoochee Tech gets tight after 11 a.m.
For a slower Thursday, Jazz Night at The Reeves House Visual Arts Center is at 6:00 pm, and the Reeves House sits close enough to the Event Green that you can pair it with the Walking Tour if you time the last Thursday of the month.
How to string a Saturday together in October
Here is the practical case for the thesis. On the last Saturday of October, a Fairways household can:
- Ride Dwelling Loop at Blankets Creek in the morning, counter-clockwise per the Saturday direction rule.
- Drive ten minutes to the Event Green, walk the Scarecrow Invasion downtown, and grab lunch on Main Street.
- Come home for a nap, then walk the kids back into downtown for Ghouls Night Out on Friday October 30 or hit a Saturday MadLife show.
That's three distinct experiences, zero interstate miles, and it's all happening within a radius most residents already drive for groceries. The events are named, dated, and repeat annually, which is what makes fall in Woodstock feel less like a suburb and more like a small town with a calendar.
A few standing habits worth adopting
- Check trail status before you drive. SORBA Woodstock posts open/closed notes and maintenance closures, and Explorer's spring closure is a reminder that "usually open" isn't the same as "open today."
- Register early for fall races. Both Mountain Goat events cap online registration the Friday before, with no race day registration, and the November race raises its entry fee after October 17.
- Book Taste of Woodstock tickets early. The event pulls restaurants from across the city into one space to highlight their cuisines in small bites, which means the good tables at the Event Green fill from the front.
- Save the Halloween Skelebration flyer. Woodstock Parks and Recreation runs the Halloween Skelebration alongside Ghouls Night Out, and the two draw from the same crowd.
If you've been at The Fairways for a while, none of these venues are news. What's new is the density. August through late November 2026 is running one named event per week within five miles of the neighborhood, and most of them benefit the trails, the arts center, or a downtown small business you already spend money at.
